Summary:
Cooling is one of the most important processes conditioning proper operation of combustion engines. The development of the higher-power engines drives increased thermal loads, requiring advances in cooling. The use of nanofluids promises a potential platform for miniaturization of heat exchangers and their less energy consumption. This is attributed to the extended surface area related to nanoparticles in the fluid, thermal conductivity enhancement and considerable increase in the heat transfer coefficient of the fluid with nanoparticles. Their thermo-physical properties, such as particle size, stability, viscosity, dispersion, heat dissipation efficiency, zeta potential and thermal conductivity and also their behaviour under different amount in the base fluid are systematically investigated from the point o view of the choice of the best candidate for coolant applied in the modern engines. The CuO nanoparticles turn out a very promising additive to the coolant. The goal of the review was to establish the state-of-art for the use of CuO as an additive in the coolant utilized in combustion engines
