- Summary:
- Gearbox and driveline durability is always been a sensitivesubject from both end user and manufacturer'spoint of view. Since powertrain is heart of vehicle, naturally it is expected to long last and perform satisfactorilyfor the entire vehicle life. Sometimes the driveline aggregatesespecially gearbox might face some issues because of variousfactors, but this is distinctively noted by the driver since it isone of the important touch point of the vehicle. The gearslippage is a very typical phenomenon observed inautomotive gearbox. The issue of gear slippage is very sensitive because it leadsto compromising safety of the driver, also it deteriorates gearshift quality and thereby performance of the vehicle. Generallygear slippage is not observed during end of line testing orduring early kilometers of vehicle. It is observed after somethousand kilometers, that to initially gear slippage is notobserved consistently and that's why it is difficult to identifyat early stage. It is also possible that driving style can contributein gear slippage id est the gear slippage observed by one drivermay or may not be observed by other driver. We came across gear slippage issue in 6 speed transmissionand how we resolved this issue is explained in this paper. The paper explains how gear slippage occur, how to detect itat early stages when it is rare, what are the possible causesbehind it and how to resolve this with effective solution. Thecase study explained in this paper throws light on variousfactors inside and outside the gearbox and how they are interrelated. The conclusion of the experiment includes solutionsas well as recommendations to prevent gear slippage in future
