Summary:
The present paper describes two case studies for verification ofnumerical results with experimental results. Case Study: 1, showsthe prediction of natural frequencies of the condenser assembly vianumerical method and experimental method under free-free condition.The experimental method has been carried using Impact HammerTesting. To get the numerical results close to the experimentalresults, parametric study has been carried out by varying thetube's shell thickness. After freezing the parameters, verifiedthe same methodology on similar model condenser. The comparisonstudy is carried out on the modal frequencies of condenser assemblythrough experimental and numerical methods. The comparison resultsexhibit a good trend and correlation, thus helping to develop aprocedure to consider the tube fin thickness 'first timeright' at the simulation stage. Case Study: 2, investigate andanalyze the stress distribution on piston under actual runningcondition. Pressure analysis and thermo-mechanical analysis isdone. The parameter used for the analysis is operating gaspressure, temperature and material properties of piston. Theanalysis predicts the natural frequencies, von-Mises stresses andresultant displacement via numerical method. Then validates thesame with Universal Testing Machine. The comparison study is thencarried out with factor of safety on the model through experimentaland numerical methods. The comparison results exhibit a good trendand correlation. Thereafter, established the proficiency tomitigates the development cycle time, proto making and prototesting costs on similar models
