- Summary:
- At Nissan and JATCO, we released the world's first continuously variable transmission (CVT) with an auxiliary gearbox in 2009 (Jatco CVT7). With its compact size and strong fuel economy competitiveness, this CVT has been widely used on mini vehicles and small vehicles; it has already been adopted on some eight million vehicles now on the market. The new-generation CVT (Jatco CVT7 W/R) described here incorporates new technologies such as start-off slip control and Dynamic Step Shift (D-STEP) control to improve driveability without sacrificing the compact package. In addition, fuel economy has also been further improved by expanding the ratio coverage and reducing friction through the adoption of a new belt and pulley system and a new oil pump. This paper describes the performance improvements attained by New CVT and the enabling technologies
