Summary:
The aim of this study is to develop the simple approach to produce iron-tin (Fe-Sn) intermetallic compound for EV battery anode materials. Intermetallic FeSn2 compound was synthesized by two step method. Mechanical alloying of Fe and Sn element powders with equal atomic ratio was performed for 25 h. The mechanically alloyed powders compacts were processed via liquid phase sintering, in which the powders compacts were heated at different temperatures and for 10 min. The experimental materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and thermal analysis techniques. The FeSn2 compound was formed during liquid phase sintering. However, the reaction between Fe and Sn was incomplete under the investigated sintering time of 10 minutes
