Summary:
In recent years, driving safety systems such as Anti-Lock Brake Systems (ABS) can be found more and more as standard components in 2-wheeler applications. As these safety critical systems are produced in large numbers, it is of highest interest to keep production and development cost at a minimum on one hand and provide best reliability of the system on the other. In order to attain these cost and quality objectives, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) technology provides excellent opportunities for test and validation. This paper presents a HIL testing framework for 2-wheeler ABS systems which is optimized in terms of cost and usability for test engineers. The setup comprises an ABS Electronic Control Unit (ECU) for 2-wheelers, a single PC ETAS LABCAR system with hardware I/O boards and LABCAR Operator as software package for real time configuration and control of the entire system. Finally, a simulated vehicle model was integrated to the HIL system to perform test runs. This virtual test environment allows testing of the ABS system under literally any condition and in order to demonstrate these advantages and benefits we then performed braking tests showing how the system could be used to evaluate the ABS functions more effectively than by doing real world testing
