- Summary:
- Optimization of motorcycle ride characteristics is vital for achieving good ride comfort over different terrains. Ride characteristics in typical commuter motorcycle on Indian roads are mainly governed by suspension elements like helical spring and hydraulic damper. Damper force velocity characteristics are most significant for achieving best motorcycle ride behavior. A broad simulation of vehicle ride characteristics and optimization is available but there is a need for a holistic approach for deriving damper force velocity characteristics with dual slope (low speed and high speed damping) and identification of its optimum changeover damper velocity. This paper presents an objective methodology, based on analytical simulation and real time measurement, developed in order to derive optimum dual slope damper force velocity properties in terms of vehicle ride comfort. Using this holistic approach, engineers can design dual slope damper force velocity properties with optimum low speed and high speed damping in order to achieve enhanced vehicle ride comfort
