Summary:
This paper suggests application of a wire in a helical form to a connector for automotive Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) networks. Since the helical mean radius, helical pitch, helical wire radius, and helix wire distance are important design factors. An analysis of the design can be used to determine the most suitable dimensions of a connector for an automotive Wireless Access Vehicle Environment (WAVE) in which a helical wire had an insertion loss of 0.43 dB to 0.115 dB in the 5.9 GHz band. The resulting insertion loss indicates an improvement of 36-83% in performance compared to an existing FAchKreis Automobile (FAKRA) connector. Therefore, the result of the connector can be useful for designing an suitable connector for automotive communication in high-frequency bandwidth
