- Summary:
- Passenger Car and SUV Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR)systems were first introduced to the market in 2008. These systemswere developed to meet the stringent LEV-II Tier 2 Bin 5 exhaustemissions regulation in US and EURO 6-1 regulation in Europe. Newemission regulations are being proposed. For Europe EURO 6-2 isabout to be defined and will start to apply in 2017. In US, LEV-IIISULEV requirements phase in from 2015 to 2025 and are mandatory forall vehicles starting in 2020.These amendments generate a new evolution of requirements forautomotive SCR systems:A first effect of this evolution is that the most efficient NOxreduction technology, combined with more efficient combustion inthe engine for CO₂ reduction, needs to be adopted on a wider rangeof cars. As a result, compact diesel vehicles will need to applySCR technology. Also, the increased need for NOx reduction leads to an increasein AdBlue®/DEF consumption on each vehicle. All elements in thefeeding system from the tank to the injector must be designed tothe new consumption rates. The presentation describes a currentpump and filter and their evolution. An additional effect of this consumption increase is the sizingof the AdBlue®/DEF tank onboard the vehicle. A regular refill ofthe AdBlue®/DEF by the vehicle driver becomes mandatory in themajority of European applications. The presentation will describein detail the evolution of tank size and refill interface
