Although the design lives of subsonic gas turbine engine components and parts are attainable within the current state-of-the-art, in practice they may not be reached. The factors which could be responsible for reduced life of a part include metallurgical and dimensional variances; incorrect production, overhauling, maintenance, or handling techniques; improper assessment of usage (stress-cycle relationships); faulty environment; and/or unrealistic build policy.
