Summary:
The modern trend of engine downsizing for CO₂ reduction coupledwith stringent emission norms compel the engine air inlet system tooutperform the conventional designs. Modern turbo diesel engine airinlet system handles higher and higher air flow, boost pressureand temperature.Air inlet system ducting designs have become complex due to oilparticles (received through PCV system), engine movement andisolation for NVH.Air inlet ducting failures; like oil mist leakage through jointsand seepage through hose wall cause high engine oil consumption andmost predominantly environment damage. Also to some extent boostleakage in certain operating conditions. These failures reduce thereliability and performance of engine in certain conditions. This paper discusses design and development of cost-effectivenon-permeable and leak-proof hose-piping system for turbochargeddiesel engine where PCV system was connected to air inlet system.Different materials of hose, different types of clamp and oil mistseparators were selected to make various configurations fortesting. The configurations were made to pass through static anddynamic tests. At the end final configuration was determined whichmet cost, performance and reliability targets
