Summary:
Recent global environmental problem such as depletion of fossil fuel and global warming has accelerated main trend of the development of hybrid electric vehicles (HEV), fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV) and pure electric vehicles (EV) in automotive industry. So the improvement of efficiency on onboard electrical drive power train including motors is very big subject in designing such electrical vehicles. Especially in such power train key items such as efficiency (loss), volume, weight, and cost has to be considered in designing onboard converters. Recently the power rating of onboard converters for HEV became in the range between 30 and 60 kW, and it may be over 100 kW for EV and FCEV. A. High power, B. High efficiency, C. High power density and D. Development mission for Keenly advanced EV prototype to be fielded based on SAZZ (Snubber Assisted Zero Voltage and Zero Current Switching) topology are discussed in this paper. Ultra high efficiency of 99 % and high power density of 40 kW/l were obtained. Reliable operation out of the soft switching area on SAZZ topology was confirmed
