- Summary:
- A simple model to simulate cycle-by-cycle variation that issuitable for use in Monte-Carlo approaches has been developed andvalidated with a wide range of experimental data. The model isintended to be diagnostic rather than predictive in nature, with agoal of providing realistic in-cylinder pressures. Theindividual-cycle cumulative rate of heat release was curve fit witha four-parameter Wiebe function. It was found that the distributionof the Wiebe b-parameter was quite small, so its value was obtainedfrom the ensemble-averaged condition. The remaining three Wiebefunction parameters, θig, θcomb and m werefound to be distributed over a moderate range, and were linearlycorrelated to each other. Using the cumulative density function ofθig, and the linear fit of θcomb and m toθig, with a random component added, a Monte-Carlo schemewas developed. The resulting randomly chosen cycles were found toadequately reproduce the observed cyclic variation at the samecondition, and can be used with higher-order models to assess theimpact of cyclic variations on other cylinder-pressure-drivenphenomena
