- Summary:
- This paper describes the Accutron mechanism, its construction and functioning. It is characterized by a tuning fork, electromagnetically driven with energy from an electrochemical cell, or battery, by means of a transistorized electronic circuit. Vibratory motion of the tuning fork is converted into rotary motion, to drive a series of gears. It can be used as a chronometric motor for applications where low speed, tiny size, and power output of the order of microwatts can be obtained. One example is the use of the basic Accutron movement, supplemented by suitable gearing, to perform switching functions in certain satellites months or years after launching, at a time which is preset on suitably calibrated dials
