- Specifications for oils purchased by the Military and recommended by engine manufacturers have changed to meet new service requirements. Test procedures for these oils are reviewed and their significance in high temperature diesel and stop-and-go gasoline engine service is discussed. Selecting one oil type for all equipment involves some hazard, but recently improved lubricating oils make possible some simplification, although the user must rely on his oil supplier for proper product selection to meet his needs and keep overall costs at a minimum
