A brief discussion of the fundamentals of a d-c generator are presented together with its limitations at both high and low speeds. The offsetting advantages in the use of an alternator are developed. Basically, to determine the proper type alternator to be used one must define the ultimate electrical load and the ultimate service required.Illustrations and typical performance curves are presented for alternators and d-c systems under various operating conditions.
