Summary:
The design and fabrication of filament wound products has been directed toward development of high strength, lightweight, cylindrical shells retaining their own full diameter end closures. Analog and mathematical techniques have been applied to the netting analysis and, where sufficient test data have been generated, conventional methods have also been used. Significant improvement has been made in glass fibers, resins, and fiber finishes, the three primary filament winding materials. Improvements in all areas of this composite structure depend upon adherence to established principles and the application of new knowledge in structural design and materials development
