The National Bureau of Standards is developing a reference table for the platinum-6% rhodium versus platinum-30% rhodium thermocouple. Thermocouples from three American manufacturers and one European manufacturer have been tested in the 01600 C range. The paper discusses the choice of materials and briefly describes the methods of testing used in this work. The results of the tests are compared with a reference curve used in Europe for the thermocouple
