This author advances numerous reasons for the increased use of plastics for automotive purposes. Emphasis is placed on thermoplastics and especially on the reinforced materials. The important properties of these latter resins are described and examples are given. Present body applications of FRTP resins are discussed and the particular advantages to the automotive engineer are cited. Projected areas of future use, such as hoods, decks, and panels are covered from a processing viewpoint. Since processing is a limiting factor, some proposals are put forth for consideration in solving this problem
