- Summary:
- The four reaction control system configurations investigated during the X-15 program include a proportional acceleration command system, on-off proportional rate command and attitude hold systems, and a rate sensing on-off stability augmentation system. Each of the systems is described briefly, and development problems encountered in hardware design, component compatibility, and systems integration are discussed. The practical aspects of system design and operation are emphasized.Flight experience with each system is also discussed. Flight data showing the results of open-loop and closed-loop control during critical X-15 reentry maneuvers are presented
