- Summary:
- This paper presents reasons for the growth in gas bearing applications, using as an example a commonly used journal bearing to show the influence of several parameters on performance. Among these parameters are dimensionless force, attitude angle, friction force, and flow. Self-acting, externally pressurized, and hybrid bearings are compared. Bearing instabilities and dynamic forces are discussed and examples of present and future gas bearing applications are presented
