- Summary:
- AbstractThe overhaul life of gas turbine engines generally is dependent on total time limitations of individual components. Programs applied in Trans-Canada Air Lines to explore the existence of component total time limitations which will permit rapid utilization of the true overhaul life potential of the engine are reviewed.Development and application of Early Failure Detection methods such as visual examination, X-ray of name tubes with engine installed in the aircraft, effective use of the oil system to give warning of failure, engine vibration monitoring, and automatic flight performance recording, are discussed.Application of the above techniques has saved a minimum of $6,000,000 in 3,000,000 gas turbine engine hours flown in Trans-Canada Air Lines to date
