- Engineering faculty members, to be effective in their educational activities, must have a working familiarity with the real engineering tasks of their counterparts in industry. Industry has been cooperative in this respect by providing summer work experience and consulting opportunities for engineering faculty, or conducting seminars and short courses.Experience has shown, however, that such involvement can be much more rewarding for engineering faculty and, ultimately, for industry, if it can be more directly related to the educational activities of the individual returning to the classroom
