The subject paper discusses problems associated with developing a systems approach to a maintainability program and with carrying out that program to produce the required results.The article covers developing a system program and the associated problems of planning and implementation of the plan to produce an effective program. Also discussed are problems of a day-by-day variety which consist of getting the job done or carrying out the work.Problems and keys to solving problems associated with a systems approach to maintainability are presented and evaluated. The theme for solution of problems throughout the paper is developing an organized analytical approach and using the right people with adequate tools to accomplish the job. The discussion is based on and refers frequently to experience gained in the system approach to maintainability on the F-111 Program at General Dynamics/Fort Worth
