Summary:
The measurement of surface textures has long been a problem half-solved. Attempts to solve this riddle are discussed and a new measurement concept is introduced which solves the remaining half of the problem. The result is a more explicit expression of surface finish qualities. Surface texture values can now be expressed in terms of numbers. A practical procedure and equipment are described. Operation of the measuring instrumentation is discussed
