AbstractThis paper discusses the extent of automotive manufacturing organization and facilities of leading European companies and how American industry has influenced the types of manufacturing methods and equipment. A review of problems confronting the Italian automotive industry, represented chiefly by Fiat, is given, including the effect of governmental fiscal policies on car sales and wage rates. Finally, prospects for the automotive industry are outlined on the basis of recent years output trends and of the potential purchasing power of the domestic and international markets
