Summary:
A definite need exists for lightweight engines that are more responsive to vehicle torque demands. One approach to this problem is supercharging independent of engine rpm. This paper reports the progress of an experimental investigation being conducted by Stevens Institute of Technology, under sponsorship of U. S. Army Tank Automotive Command, into the effects and eventual limits of high supercharging on an experimental, aircooled, loop-scavenged, two-cycle, single-cylinder C.I. test engine which incorporates principles of heat isolation and controlled combustion. Because of the continuing nature of the program, detailed data are not included. An indicated mep of 450 psi and 2 hp/inches3 are the most significant accomplishments to date
