- Summary:
- Aircraft arresting systems are not new. They have been used successfully for many years on aircraft carriers and airfields by military forces around the world. The resultant savings in lives, aircraft, and property have more than paid their cost. Research and development and experience gained with military arresting systems in jet operations has direct application to similar devices for commercial aviation. FAA has demonstrated the feasibility of arresting commercial jet transports. Each jet overrun accident today adds emphasis to the immediate need for these safety devices. If action is taken now, commercial arresting systems can be available by late 1965 or early 1966
