1 online resource
Place of Publication:
Warrendale, PA SAE International 1964
Summary:
A summary and correlation of material compatibility and corrosion control problems associated with large space booster vehicles powered by liquid storable propellants is presented. Considerable operational and performance advantages can be achieved by using liquid storable propellants rather than cryogenic propellant combinations, although other problems do arise.Efforts to resolve material compatibility problems by extensive material test programs are discussed. Considerable research is needed to develop certain nonmetals, such as paints, adhesives, and lubricants, and materials for seals and gaskets, for use with storable corrosive propellants. Problems associated with metals and the propellants in general have been resolved quite satisfactorily
