Summary:
AbstractConstruction and industrial equipment designers are becoming better acquainted with the problem of torsional vibrations in diesel engine drive trains due to the new and different ways the engine is being applied. They must understand the difference between bare engine torsionals and torsionals in which the entire power train is involved, and they must know the fundamental approach to the solution of the latter, known as a system torsional. Finally, they should have a knowledge of those types of drivelines and couplings that have been successfully used in the past for the purpose of controling a system prone to a resonant torsional vibration. With such an understanding of the problem, the equipment designer is properly prepared to assume the responsibility of protecting the power train against a harmful torsional, and can, in turn, intelligently solicit the assistance of the individual component suppliers
