Summary:
Long-life grease has become an important feature in automotive design in the last few years. The requirements for this grease include low wear, oxidation stability, corrosion resistance, low oil separation, shear stability, water resistance, and high dropping point. Laboratory test results are presented showing the performance of a lithium grease meeting these criteria. Field test results after 100,000 miles without relubrication of the ball-joints show this grease to be completely satisfactory. In the near future, all grease lubricated parts may be required to last the life of the car without relubrication
