The Lycoming S&H engine, in the making for 10 years, is the fruition of a concept study for the Ordnance Tank Automotive Command. It is a valveless, loop-scavenged, aircooled, two-cycle engine, made largely of aluminum, weighing only 5 lb/hp in the 4 cyl Vee model of 312 cu inches displacement, rated at 120 net bhp.The paper discusses concept, design, performance on various fuels, cold starting, endurance, maintenance, and outlook
