- Summary:
- The determination of pure air ratio and other factors related to the scavenging and charging processes is of considerable importance in the development of two-stroke cycle engines. Methods that are available for such investigations are either cumbersome or fail to give complete data. In this paper, a new method is suggested by which it would be possible to determine the pure air ratio and other factors directly. The method consists of drawing two samples of the cylinder contents, one when the engine is running under normally aspirated conditions and the other while it is running with small quantities of acetylene mixed with the inlet air, each sample being collected after the completion of scavenging and during a single cycle. Experiments conducted along the lines of the new technique are presented
