- Summary:
- Diffusion welding, or diffusion bonding, has become the subject of considerable attention for joining alloys in unusual combinations and difficult configurations. Some of the advantages of solid phase diffusion welding, such as low joining temperatures, joints with large surface areas, and homogeneous heating, have attracted designers dealing with difficult welding problems. As diffusion welding and some allied processes are developed, novel techniques and applications are introduced. Although many techniques are referred to as "diffusion welding," it is often difficult to determine which processes truly belong to this category. This paper reviews the salient features and best known applications of diffusion welding. It attempts to provide a working definition of this technique, as well as a comprehensive review of the manner in which it has been applied in many industries. A brief account of the important technical features of the process, including the parameters to be dealt with in applying diffusion welding to specific problems, is presented
