- Summary:
- AbstractThis paper discusses power fluids for vapor cycles and reports on an experimental evaluation at the General Motors Research Laboratories of the fluorochemical C8F16O in a small vapor cycle powerplant, which is also described. Requirements for an ideal power fluid are discussed and the characteristics of the fluorochemical FC-75 are presented. The engine break-in procedure and test results are presented, and the effect of molecular weight on power fluid characteristics, on the need for regeneration, and on the turbine speed is discussed. A comparison of C8F16O, steam, and Freon-11 for a waste heat recovery cycle is presented
