This paper describes and illustrates the extensive research into gas turbine exhaust noise. This study has led to a better understanding of noise generating sources and transmission processes. Also described is the development of new high-temperature erosion-resistant acoustic materials. These materials led to the evolution of new exhaust noise silencers for on-board transport aircraft and for silencing ground support installations
