- Summary:
- There is no question that engineering managers are needed; the question is whether to become one. This paper attempts to help the nonsupervisory engineer commit himself to one profession or the other: engineering or engineering management. The choice is difficult especially since the selection of engineers for supervisory positions is not a science and probably never will be. But there are some criteria that can be cited as fairly reliable, and once a commitment toward supervision is made, a planned course of action should be followed. Either way, the engineer who makes up his mind early will probably help himself and his organization
