- Summary:
- The tremendous growth in usage of hydraulic systems during the last 20 years has brought about a need for improvements in fire-resistant fluids to minimize dangers of combustion while in use under hazardous conditions. The author discusses the properties, characteristics, and problems encountered when using emulsions, straight synthetics, water-glycol solutions, and petroleum oil-synthetic blends in hydraulic systems, and points out advantages and disadvantages of each type of FRF.Fire-resistant fluids are necessary for use in hazardous hydraulic systems to insure safety of personnel, property, and continuity of production. Overall economics dictate that a study be made of each application to determine selection of the actual fluid to be used
