Estimation of aircraft operating expense for airline operation is becoming increasingly complex. The ATA Standard Method of Estimating Comparative Direct Operating Costs of Transport Airplanes, last revised in 1960, is again under study for revision. When revised it should provide a more useable tool to the industry in analyzing the economics of competitive aircraft.
