Summary:
The problem considered is improvement of intercity transportation by private vehicle. The existing dominance of this form is established and reduction of time and overall costs are objectives.A transportation system is outlined containing a concept of dual modes. In one mode, a private vehicle is operated on the streets in the conventional fashion. In addition, it can be placed in a high speed automatically controlled network to achieve cruise speeds two to three times greater than at present. The effect of such a system on the community environment is considered. Possibilities for vastly broadening the areas of daily activity are opened up. Recreation and vacation travel would also be greatly enhanced. Overall cost possibilities are discussed. The advantages of the new system over existing transportation are developed
