Summary:
SUMMARYCurrent research results confirm that, in all significant performance areas, the performance of a ground effect machine (GEM) depends primarily on the ratio of its size to its height above the ground. Present indications are that large GEM's at moderate heights can provide several times better hovering performance than that of existing aircraft, together with respectable cruise performance. In the absence of extensive flat, unobstructed land areas, operation over large bodies of water is the most attractive possibility. Some further research progress, particularly in the stability and control areas, is necessary to confirm and evaluate this possibility
