- Summary:
- A method of optimizing the performance of an integrated fan/duct system suitable for use in a ground effect machine (GEM) is formulated. A specific design is made utilizing this method to satisfy requirements of a GEM test bed for the David Taylor Model Basin. A method of axial-fan off-design performance prediction is also developed and applied to the test fan.Test results indicate that the overall performance of the fan/duct system with a right angle turn is in reasonable agreement with the design value of 80%. The off-design fan performance is predicted satisfactorily
