- Summary:
- HOW commercially available fuels behave in typical aircraft gas turbine combustors was the subject of the investigation discussed in this paper. Data were obtained on full-scale combustion chambers using a wide variety of fuels, with emphasis placed on combustion efficiency and deposit formation. At low altitudes, combustion efficiencies are high and unaffected by heat output or fuel. An increase in altitude results in an efficiency decrease which is affected by type of fuel under certain conditions.Combustor design greatly affects location and amount of deposits, but combustor deposits generally increase with decreasing fuel volatility and increasing fuel unsaturation
