Summary:
THIS paper gives the results of cooperative work carried out to investigate the effects of sulfur in gasoline on engine operation.Sixty-two vehicles completed service tests at seven test sites to compare the effect of two gasoline sulfur levels - roughly 0.10 and 0.25% -on engine wear and cleanliness. The test data show that the influence of high gasoline sulfur content may vary from a pronounced effect on cylinder and ring wear at some operating conditions to no effect under continuous operating conditions at normal engine temperatures
