- Summary:
- The Ethyl Turbulent Flow System (TFS) was installed on two different European 4-cylinder engines of approximately 2-liter displacement. Fuel economy improvements were achieved when compared to the standard vehicles and vehicles certified by EPA for the 1975 model year. Tests showed that the lean burn TFS allows these vehicles to also meet the 1975-1976 49-state emission standards without the use of exhaust gas recirculation. Further reductions of emissions are possible with the use of exhaust aftertreatment such as port liners and/or thermal reactors
