Summary:
The paper describes how the SAE Marine Sound Level Committee, and representatives of the boating industry, developed a procedure for the standardized measurement of maximum "pass-by" sound levels for pleasure motorboats up to 65 ft in length. Sound level data for typical boats are presented, as well as the reasons for the procedure and the justification for the tolerances used.
