Summary:
A wing-leveler system using a separate surface aileron driven by a linear electro-mechanical actuator is being developed for a Cessna 172. The separate surface aileron is installed in the left wing only. Flight tests indicate that the system performs the bank angle hold function quite well for a wide range of bank angles. After hardover failures of the system, the pilot still has adequate control over the airplane. Takeoffs and landings with the system failed hardover have been performed. The system can be retrofitted to existing airplanes
