- Summary:
- As a result of technological advances in materials and cooling techniques, the stoichiometric or maximum temperature engine is now on the horizon. The high turbine inlet temperature makes possible improvements in engine performance and reductions in size and weight. Simultaneously, it poses new considerations in the selection of an engine control system. Not only are temperature levels higher and flow ranges wider, but perhaps most significant is the stoichiometric fuel air ratio. The impact of potential fuel rich combustor mixtures must be thoroughly considered in selecting a control mode. This paper deals with some of these considerations and the resulting requirements which will influence the selection and design of a high temperature engine control system. Its purpose is not to provide specific answers, but rather to suggest areas in which additional study should be conducted
