- This paper describes a new concept of reciprocating engine which permits the control of displacement and the clearance volume as a function of power in order to better match the engine to vehicle power requirements. It is applicable to both diesel and otto-cycle engines and shows promise for increased efficiency, especially for the otto-cycle engine.
