- Summary:
- A mathematical model has been formulated which accounts reasonably well for experimental observations made on the steady-state performance of an insulated exhaust manifold reactor when connected to a single-cylinder engine. The model, which is based on chemical reaction kinetics and energy balance considerations, predicts the effects of air-fuel ratio and dilution air quantity on the reduction of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons in engine exhaust gas. This paper includes a description of the model development, a discussion of qualitative relationships, and a comparison of quantitative predictions made from the model to experimental results
